What exactly does Naughty Nits do?

The Naughty Nits product line is your all-round, safe and natural option for the eradication and prevention of lice. The herbal and aromatherapeutic ingredients in our Naughty Nits products are 100% safe and natural and contain no pesticides or other toxic chemicals. This means that you can confidently and safely use these products on your child as often as you need to.

Results should be noticeable immediately after using Naughty Nits Shampoo and Naughty Nits Hair Oil as directed. Regular use of Naughty Nits Spritzer will keep lice infestation at bay.

Repeated exposure to the dangerous chemicals present in over the counter treatments and lice shampoos can be more harmful to your child than to the lice themselves, not to mention the fact that lice are becoming increasingly resistant to these chemicals. • Naughty Nits Shampoo will help to eradicate lice and nits from your child’s hair.
  • Naughty Nits Hair Oil will prevent re-infestation and will help to loosen and remove nits.
  • Naughty Nits Spritzer will help to keep lice infestation at bay and protect your child during lice epidemics.

More information on these natural ingredients

  • Azadirachta indica (Neem) originates from the Bay of Bengal and is a highly prized Ayurvedic herb used to protect people from insect pests. The natural insecticidal properties are due to the component Azadirachtin A which affects the feeding, developmental, and reproductive processes of the insects. In addition, the anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties of Azadirachta make it an ideal natural remedy for pesky infestations. Not surprising then that the wood is highly valued for its worm resistant properties! Studies have shown this plant to be an effective insect repellant, lasting for hours. (Dua, V. K., Nagpal, B. N., and Sharma, V. P. “Repellent action of neem cream against mosquitoes”. Indian J.Malariol. 1995;32(2):47-53)
  • Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) is a native Mediterranean shrub that is now cultivated widely elsewhere. The strong fragrance of Rosemary makes it a natural insect repellent, and the oil is well known to smother and suffocate pests. Rosemary not only stimulates hair follicles to promote healthy hair growth, but is also a nourishing conditioner and tonic for the hair itself, leaving the strands soft and silky and easy to comb. (Hay, I. C., Jamieson, M., and Ormerod, A. D. Randomized trial of aromatherapy. “Successful treatment for alopecia areata”. Arch Dermatol. 1998;134(11):1349-1352)
  • Lavender is one of the most popular herbs with a wide variety of uses. Lavender has been used since Roman Times as a bath additive, and it is not surprising that it derives its name from the French word ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash’. Aside from its wonderful fragrance, Lavender is a well known cleansing herb with natural antiseptic and insect repelling properties. (Gabbrielli G, Loggini F, Cioni PL, et al. “Activity of lavandino essential oil against non-tubercular opportunistic rapid grown mycobacteria”. Pharmacol Res Commun 1988;20 Suppl 5:37-40). The soothing and calming effects of lavender will help to settle anxiety and distress.
  • Melaleuca alternifolia (Tea Tree Oil) contains a large number of active constituents which have well known antiseptic and insecticide properties. One of Tea Tree Oil’s most powerful properties is its ability to ward off and repel parasites, including head lice. (Canyon, D. V. and Speare, R. “A comparison of botanical and synthetic substances commonly used to prevent head lice (Pediculus humanus var. capitis) infestation.” Int J Dermatol 2007;46(4):422-426 ). Not only will Tea Tree Oil repel and smother the lice, but it will also cleanse the bites and help the body to resist secondary infection.( Caelli M and Riley T. “Tea tree oil - an alternative topical decolonisation agent for adult inpatients with methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) - a pilot study”. J Hosp Infect 1998;40 (Suppl A):9.)
  • Pelargonium Graveolens (Rose Geranium) is native to South Africa, but is now cultivated in the Mediterranean region, Africa, Asia and Europe. Pelargonium owes its powerful insect repellent qualities to its rich content of Citronella oils. In addition, Pelargonium has well known antiseptic properties and will impart a beautiful orange-rose fragrance to the product.

These essential oils not only safely repel and smother the lice, but also loosen the nits from the hair shaft, allowing them to be combed out using a metal nit comb which can be found at most drugstores.

Native Remedies' products are created using our Full Spectrum Approach™ (FSA), a set of standards and processes that combine the best quality, laboratory tested, raw ingredients, Good Manufacturing Practices and a Full Spectrum manufacturing method to guarantee you products of the highest quality, safety and effectiveness.

What is the proper dosage?

Directions

Wash hair with Naughty Nits Shampoo, massaging gently onto the scalp for one minute. Leave in for approximately five minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Repeat after two weeks.

Caution

Not recommended for babies under one year unless under medical supervision. For external use only.

Directions

Massage onto the scalp and into the hair after shampooing with Naughty Nits Shampoo. If working with long hair, section and divide with the help of hair clips. This will ensure that the entire affected area is covered. Comb through hair in one-inch sections repeatedly with a metal nit comb (available at most drugstores).

Watch out for lice trying to escape the oil by coming to the surface or hairline areas for air. Leave on overnight. Cover your child's pillow with an old towel to avoid staining. Shampoo out in the morning with Naughty Nits Shampoo.

Caution

Not recommended for babies under one year unless under medical supervision. For external use only.

Note: Protection is recommended to prevent the oil from marking bed linens and pajamas.

Directions

Shake the bottle. Spray lightly onto dry hair before brushing and onto the back of the neck.

Caution

Avoid spraying into the eyes and face. For external use only. Not recommended for babies under one year unless under medical supervision

For best results, it is recommended to use all the products in combination. Naughty Nits Spritzer may be used alone for the child who is currently lice-free and wants to stay that way during times of frequent infestation.

What is the life cycle of the head louse?

Head lice can survive on a human host for an average of 30 days. In general they do not survive more than 48 hours off the host. A female louse lays approximately 3 to 5 eggs a day. Eggs take about 7-10 days to hatch, and another 7-10 day cycle to mature and lay their own eggs.

How are lice spread?

Head lice can spread whenever direct contact of the hair or head occurs with an infested individual. Sharing personal items such as pillows, hats, towels, brushes, hair ties and helmets also facilitates spreading of hair lice.

How do I treat lice on bedding, towels and toys?

To prevent lice re-infestation, bedding and towels should be treated by washing in warm water and detergent. Make sure to place items in the dryer for at least 30 minutes. Since lice cannot live away from a host for longer than 2 days, pillows and toys can be treated by placing them in secured plastic bags for a 48 hour time period.
